Residents of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, woke up to another attack by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram on Sunday.

The terrorists are currently battling with the security forces along Maiduguri/Damboa highway.

The battle, which began around 7:00 am, is still ongoing with residents crying to God for intervention.

Christians, who were already on their way to their places of worship before the attack, were asked to return home and pray.

For now, sound of gunshots has taken over the city with heavy sound of military artillery and fighter jets going round the city.

A student of the University of Maiduguri, Isola Taiwo, told DAILY POST that “we woke up around 6 am this morning to hear sounds of explosions. It’s still currently on, even after about three and half hours.

“Our University is located at the Northern axis of Maiduguri, along Bama Road. Speculations are high among students that Boko Haram may be trying to capture Maiduguri today through the Northern end of the city after a failed attempt to capture the city through the Southern end last Sunday”.

“We appear to be victims of their invasion through this Northern end. I heard sounds of military fighter jets, maybe for airstrikes. But they are yet to strike any of the locations.

“Dangerous sounds of bomb shells by armoured tanks are still being heard continuously. Students are hiding in their hostels and have avoided church services. Those that worshipped outside the university campus reported that soldiers manning the University gates have barred entry and exit into the campus”, he further disclosed.
