Suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, Sunday night attacked Ringim town, in Ringim local government area of Jigawa state.

DailyPost gathered that the militants stormed the area at dusk.

They reportedly made their way to the personal residence of the former Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, the Divisional Police headquarters and other places.

Sources say the attackers used improvised explosive devices (IEDs, hand grenades and other weapons.

The area is presently under siege as federal troops quickly arrived at the scene and are in fierce gun battle as at the time of filing this report.

Earlier in the month, DailyPost had reported that the former Police chief, Ringim, was seeking asylum in the United Kingdom.

The major reason he gave in his application was that the violent Islamic group may come after his life in retaliation for arrest, torture, detention and killing of its members during his tenure.

DailyPost will give update on the attack in a bit.
