Boko Haram: Army set to reopen major roads in Borno

The Theatre Command of the anti-insurgency campaign in the North-East, Operation Lafiya Dole is set to reopen some major roads in Borno state which had been closed for over three years following the activities of Boko Haram terrorists.

The roads to be opened are Konduga – Bama, Bama – Bankiand Bama – Gwoza roads.

The Theatre Command is expected to officially open the roads in first week of March, 2018.

The roads to be reopened are among the major and most strategic roads in Borno state, linking the state to Adamawa and borders markets and towns in the state.

Throughout the period of closure, motorists take several hours and days to access the local governments via Damboa.

DAILY POST reports that, with this development, almost all major roads in the state would now be reopened for business.

Few years ago, virtually all the roads in Borno state are close due to the activities of the insurgents.

However, last week, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. TY Buratai re-opened the Maiduguri – Dikwa – Gomboru road to make it easy for travellers to reach their destinations in time.

Other roads reopened after several months and years of closure are Maiduguri – Damboa road and Maiduguri – Baga road.
