Boko Haram: Army review panel concludes sitting

The Nigerian Army panel reviewing disciplinary cases resulting from the prosecution of the war against terrorism in the North East has concluded its sitting.

The panel that sat at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, was headed by the General Officer Commanding one Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Oyebade.

It will be recalled that the panel was reported to have cleared about 2,500 soldiers and have since been asked to proceed to the Nigerian Army Training Centre, Kaduna, for the requisite training for reintegration into the service.

According to a Punch report, the review was so good for some other officers and soldiers whose cases were taken to the three General Courts Martial of the Nigerian Army, as the panel directed Army personnel whose cases were either decided or pending at the various tribunals to proceed to their centres of prosecution for the resolution of pending legal issues.

According to the report, the chairman of the panel did not dismiss the cases of the soldiers who were dismissed or sentenced by the military courts, but referred them to Abuja, Lagos and Jos to resolve legal issues around their cases.

A source quoted by the report said: “The Army panel reviewing the recent disciplinary cases emanating from Operation Zaman Lafiya has concluded sitting in Kaduna.

“The panel cleared about 2,500 of the soldiers whose cases did not go to the military court-martial in Lagos, Abuja and Jos.

“The panel referred all the cases which were decided at the court to the three courts-martial in Lagos, Abuja, and Jos for a resolution of pending legal issues.”
