The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Yobe State has revealed that 24 registration areas cannot be reached during next month’s general elections due to the security challenges.

Ahmadu Makama, Resident Electoral Commissioner in Yobe State disclosed this to the Executive Members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Yobe State Council during a courtesy call on the INEC office in Damaturu yesterday.

According to the REC, “24 registration areas are not accessible to even the inhabitants of the area let alone INEC; we cannot risk the life of the people.”

On the collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in the state, Makama explained that “we still have plenty of PVC uncollected, Yobe is among the states with uncollected PVC.

“About 100,000 PVCs uncollected in our various local government council offices, we intend to mobilize our staff to the ward level, we would ensure that it gets to the hands of the actual owners.”
