Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev. Mathew Hassan Kukah has commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, for his relentless effort in promoting religious harmony in Nigeria.
He upheld the Sultan, who is the President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, as a promoter of Nigeria’s unity anchored on justice.
Kukah, who stated this yesterday during a courtesy visit to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, assured that the church was ready to partner with the state government in all areas of human interest.
In his response, Governor Tambuwal assured the outspoken Bishop that his government would partner with the Catholic Church to improve education, healthcare delivery, religious harmony and peace within its borders and beyond for the benefit of the citizenry.
Acknowledging the role of the church in the provision of social services in the state which he described as commendable, Tambuwal promised to render any assistance required to expand the services of the hospital and school currently run by the Sokoto Diocese.
He however urged Kukah to look into areas of youth empowerment and skills acquisition, stressing that his administration would appreciate suggestions and ideas from private individuals as well as corporate organisations that could guarantee the unity and progress of the state.
