Bishop Ezeokafor condemns killing of Catholic priest by suspected herdsmen, tasks Gov. Ugwuanyi

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor has condemned the killing of a Catholic Priest in Enugu State, Rev. Father Paul Offu, by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Father Offu was alleged to have been killed on Thursday by Fulani herdsmen along Ihe-Agbudu Road in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Bishop Okafor, while reacting to the death of Rev. Fr. Paul Offu, called for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act, wondering why such heinous crimes should be allowed to take place in the first instance.

He said, “Enugu Governor, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi should not allow this matter to be swept under the carpet.

“I am sad. What manner of country is this? A country where some people are untouchables. A country that some people will be killing innocent citizens.

“What we are witnessing today is simply a coordinated attacks against certain individuals and groups. Why should it always be Catholic Priests?”

Bishop Ezeokafor described the killing of the priest as senseless, while expressing worries that the killing of innocent Nigerians is fast becoming a daily occurrence, and wondered why government cannot put a stop to these killings.

“Is it not obvious that some people, somewhere are carrying a particular agenda? There is more to this than meets the eyes?” he asked.
