The Biafra Zionists Federation, BZF, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Nigeria Police to release its members arrested today, Wednesday.
DAILY POST had reported that self-acclaimed President of the group, Barr. Benjamin Onwuka and over 15 others were arrested after they attempted to declare Biafra at the Enugu Government House earlier today.
But Deputy leader of the group, Mazi Ambrose Ugwu, who spoke to journalists on the development, said the Southeast governors would be held responsible for whatever happened to their members.
“Peace loving Zionists were today treated like common criminals by the police, who were doing the bidding of Southeast governors. They beat our members, including our commander, like criminals.
“What happened today is very condemnable. We hold South east governors responsible. There is a collaboration among the five of them to crush Biafra agitators.
“But we are not going to be cowed. We are giving them ultimatum to release them immediately. Failure to do so, they will have the United States and other of our international allies to contend with,” Ugwu boasted.
Meanwhile, spokesman of the Police in Enugu State, SP Ebere Amaraizu also confirmed the arrest.
Amaraizu said in a statement that the police, “nabbed the leader of Biafra Zionist Movement, identified as one Benjamin Onwuka, alongside some of his members, numbering about twenty-one.
“He was nabbed within the Enugu metropolis alongside his members based on intelligence information.
“Onwuka has been standing trial in the court of competent jurisdiction before he resurfaced today but fell into the hands of the eagle eyed security operatives of the command.
“Suspects are helping the operatives in their investigations.”
