Biafra Youth League blasts Gowon over claim that Ojukwu caused civil war

Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has reacted to recent claim by General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) that late warlord Odumegwu Ojukwu’s lies caused civil war.

This is contained in a statement by BNYL Leader, Princewill Obuka.

It said history recorded that Ojukwu won in the Aburi Conference which Gowon and the Supreme Military Council accepted with faith.

“Being a stark illiterate then, he did not understand what Confederation was all about until he was told during his return to Lagos”, the group noted.

“The former Head of State being a junior to Ojukwu is not supposed to remind us of the Aburi Accord where he failed woefully”, he added.

Obuka further stressed that the war was caused by the failure of Gowon and the Supreme Military Council, and that it “was carefully planned”

Similarly, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reacted to Gowon’s comment.

The group insisted that history has it “documented on granite that Gowon reneged on Aburi Agreements” because he was “assured by a certain colonial power that Ojukwu’s people should be crushed militarily.”

IPOB maintained that Gowon “slaughtered over 3 million Biafrans to unite Nigeria because of crude oil and gas not out of patriotism.”
