The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, on Tuesday called on those agitating for the secession of the country to desist because Igbos are not prepared for another civil war.
Speaking at the government house in Owerri, the state capital, Okorocha also urged the Movement for Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and other groups drumming support for the actualisation of Biafra to stop doing.
Okorocha said rather than opt for secession; youths of the South East should redirect their agitation towards the actualisation of economic advancement in the region.
Commenting on the threat issued by Northern youths that Igbos should vacate their region in three months, the governor described the statement as “nonsensical and inciting.’’
Okorocha maintained that Igbos are peace loving people who have contributed to enormously to the economy of Nigeria.
According to him, there is need for the reorientation of youth so as to repair the broken political relations between the North and the East.
Appealing that the existing hatred and division between Igbos and Northerners be brought to an end, Okorocha said, “We have failed as leaders hence the campaign of hate for one another; we need to take responsibility and end it.
“We need to rise and take steps to end it and get rid of the inherent hatred and division we inherited from the colonial masters and not opted for secession.”
