The sit-at-home protest ordered by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) today registered near total compliance with Markets, banks, schools, transport companies shutting down business activities for the day.
DAILY POST reporter who monitored the level of compliance in all cities in the state reports that in Onitsha, all major markets were under lock and keys, while resident who intended to move from one location to another were stranded as vehicles were scarcely available, save for few people who drove in their private cars.
The popular Upper Iweka motor park was also deserted, just as human presence was also limited.
A resident of the town, Mr Toochukwu Adaenu, a vulcanizer told our reporter that the sit-at-home protest was more of a celebration than mourning to them.
“We need to do this for the government to see how ready we are to leave Nigeria. We support this sit-at-home and will be ready to do it again if we are called upon,” he said.
In Awka, Ekwulobia, Agulu and other towns in Anambra state visited by our reporter, traders were seen sitting idly in groups and talking, while most streets in Awka were turned into football field where football was played.
DAILY POST, however, reports that as at the time of filing this report, some roadside traders had picked up courage and started opening their shops for business.
The entire exercise has so far been peaceful, and police have been sighted around various towns patrolling to ensure that no violence was recorded.
