Following yesterday’s violent clash between pro-Biafra activists and security agents, the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu has expressed concern over the excesses of security operatives in handling protests.
Moving a motion through Order 43 of the Senate Standing Rules, the lawmaker condemned the killing of protesters by troops and urged all those involved in maintaining peace and order to be responsible enough in doing that.
“Mr Senate President, Distinguished Colleagues, you recall that major Newspapers headlines today showed killing of protesters in major parts of the South East especially those that concern the future of this Country and I urge Security Agents to be responsible”, Ekweremadu said.
Meanwhile, Senate President, Bukola Saraki noted that since the motion came through Order 43, it need not be debated in line with the tradition of the Senate.
He requested that the matter should be brought to the Senate as a sponsored motion for consideration in subsequent sitting.
