The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has warned the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), against embarking on any street protest during the May Day celebration in Abuja on Monday.
This was contained in a statement signed by its spokeman, ASP Usen Omorodion, on Sunday.
Omorodion said that they had information, that the IPOB members were planning to take over the streets of Abuja, but made it clear the command was ready to confront any threat to public peace.
“Intelligence report at the disposal of police revealed that a certain group identified as the indigenous people of Biafra has threatened to take over the streets of FCT in the name of registering their protest.
“The commissioner of police hereby warns individual and groups against indulging in acts of protest that will result to breakdown of law and order in the federal capital territory,” the statement said.
It advised FCT residents to go about their business without fear and molestation “as the command is well prepared and possesses the necessary wherewithal to confront any threat to the serene peace in the FCT.”
