The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has announced the change in the team of lawyers involved in the case of its embattled leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Disclosing this in a statement signed by its spokespersons, Emma Mmezu and Dr Clifford Iroanya, the group said Vincent Obetta who used to be the head of the defence counsel’s services has been relieved of his job due to his inability to handle such high profile matter and for alleged misconduct unbecoming of a professional legal practitioner.
The pro-Biafra group officially announced Chief Chuks Muoma, SAN as the replacement for Obetta.
The statement reads, “The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Worldwide for the avoidance of doubt has officially dropped Vincent Obetta, who was the lead solicitor in the defence team representing the leader of IPOB and Director of Radio Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu over the bogus charge of treasonable felony presently ongoing at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
“IPOB terminated the services of Vincent Obetta since January 19, 2016 on the grounds that he is no longer capable of handling such high profile matter and conduct unbecoming of a professional legal practitioner.
“Therefore, we are reminded to place emphasis on this fact of his disengagement and the need to inform the general public to stop dealing with him in respect of this case and any other case where IPOB members are concerned.
“We wish to place on record that the lead attorney in this case is now Chief Chuks Muoma (SAN) with Ifeanyi Ejiofor as lead counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB.
“We urge the public to direct every enquiry to the chambers of Ifeanyi Ejiofor on behalf of the defence team presently comprising 17 lawyers with many more indicating interests to join the team.
“The public is hereby warned that any person or persons dealing with any other individual claiming they are representing our leader, Nnamdi Kanu other than Chief Chuks Muoma, SAN, and Ifeanyi Ejiofor is doing so at their own risk.”
