The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Monday descried as sponsored and spurious allegations that it was being sponsored by the Anambra State Governor and certain other individuals.
A group, INTERSOCIETY had listed Obiano, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and several other individuals and groups as sponsors of pro-Biafra activities.
However, the media and publicity secretary of IPOB, Comrade Emma Powerful in a reaction described the claims as and “baseless, unsubstantiated and spurious”.
He stated that “It is on record that IPOB is a global organisation with presence in over one hundred countries and territories around the world and therefore is more that capable of supporting itself financially. No politician of whatever persuasion can stand today to say he or she is a financier of IPOB because they are neither worthy nor capable of doing so.
“We want to make it categorically clear to all and sundry that IPOB is a gigantic organization which one man or group cannot have the wherewithal to sponsor. IPOB sponsorship comes from the membership worldwide through voluntary monthly dues and levies.
“Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not only incorruptible but whiter than white and whiter than snow. If any politician has ever sponsored him or IPOB they should be bold enough to come out and say so. He would rather die than belittle himself to the point of compromising the integrity of the struggle for Biafra emancipation at the hands of low life politicians.
“What Emeka Umeagbalasi has displayed is a classic case of rumour peddling and gossip merchandising, which is not entirely unconnected to the recent successful sit at home order issued by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his rising profile.
“Having found it impossible to subdue and defeat our leader legally, enemies of Biafra, through Emeka Umeagbalasi and co. have now resorted to casting aspersions and character assassination as a way to demystify our leader in the hope of rendering the movement rudderless. We have found it necessary therefore to issue this ultimatum to Emeka Umeagbalasi and his INTERSOCIETY.
“If at the expiry of the next 48 hours he fail to publish incontrovertible evidence to buttress his allegations against the leader of IPOB and others he mentioned their names, he will bear the consequences of whatever legal action IPOB chooses to take. For those that may not understand, what Emeka Umeagbalasi is trying to do, is to use the scare tactics of publicly naming a few politicians in order to frighten potential donors away from supporting IPOB because they will feel their names will be exposed to the public.
“Therefore, we call on IPOB members, Biafrans, friends of Biafra and Lovers of freedom to disregard these wholly unfounded allegations from INTERSOCIETY, who it appears, have left the sacred duty of the defence of human rights to dabble into tabloid journalism.”
