The Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu on Wednesday insisted he must not be given secret trial.

Kanu made the declaration shortly after Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court fixed March 20 and 21 for commencement of his trial after squashing six of the 11 counts against him.

Kanu, who doubles as the director of Radio Biafra alongside three others – David Nwawuisi, Benjamin Madubugwu and Chidiebere Onwudiwe are currently facing trial before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court for terrorism related charges.

The IPOB leader while trying to address the court from the dock, but was denied the opportunity, yelled: “I will not allow any secret trial! No witness protection either, none! Why am I not allowed to speak? Am I not the one standing trial?”

Irritated by Kanu’s outburst, the judge threatened to declare him “a nuisance.

She said, “If you make further noise in this court, I will declare you a nuisance and conduct this trial in your absence. Counsel, advise your clients to keep quiet immediately or I will declare them nuisance in this trial.”

Justice Nyako also dismissed the defence’s oral application seeking Kanu’s bail pending the determination of the case.

“As at now, I don’t have any pending bail application. When you file, I will know how to attend to them,” she ruled.
