Karim Benzema has said that his Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, is not desperate to break Lionel Messi’s new Champions League record.
Both players were gunning for the record, but Messi broke it on Tuesday, after smashing in a hat-trick against APOEL in Barcelona’s 4-0 victory, to take his tally to 74 goals.
Ronaldo was in action on Wednesday and grabbed the only goal, as Madrid defeated Basle 1-0 in Switzerland. The Portuguese is level with Raul on 71 strikes.
“Cristiano doesn’t ask me to pass him the ball in order for him to break the record,” Benzema told beIN Sports after the match.
“Frankly, he doesn’t ask for anything. But when he’s well positioned on the pitch, I offer him the ball.”
