The Benue State government has cleared the air on the alleged killing of wanted criminal, Terwase Akwaza, otherwise known as Ghana.

The police command explained that it was one of his gang members that was killed and not the wanted criminal.

Speaking with DAILY POST, the Benue Police PRO, Moses Yamu assured that efforts were still on top gear to bring Ghana to his kneels.

He said, “We want to clear the air that it was not Ghana that was killed. It was one of his gang members identified as Danladu Awudu.

“The Operation Zenda Special Crack Squad of the Benue State Command were engaged in a gun duel with Gang members of the wanted criminal Terwase Akwaza AKA “Ghana” on 11/08/2017 at about 0300hrs.

“The gun battle ensued when the Crack Squad stormed a criminal hideout at a location on the border with Taraba State, following a reliable information that Terwase Akwaza aka Ghana and his gang members were holding a meeting.

“The bandits immediately opened fire on sighting the Police team and in the ensuing gun duel, one Danladi Awudu aka Jerry who was hosting the meeting was hit by a bullet while others escaped with bullet wounds as there were traces of blood stains all over the place.

“Awudu was, however, confirmed dead on reaching the hospital.

“The team recovered an Assault rifle No. 2051679 with one hundred and fifteen (115) rounds of live ammunition, ten (10) live cartridges, assorted charms, two (2) army camouflage shorts and other items.

“Search for the fleeing members and the Gang leader aka Ghana is ongoing,” Yamu added
