Benue on fire as gunmen take over Naka community [PHOTOS]

No fewer than 20 houses have been razed after armed men attacked Naka, Gwer West LGA of Benue State.

DAILY POST gathered that the armed men, said to be wearing military camouflage, invaded the community, Thursday afternoon, shooting sporadically and setting houses on fire.

A source hinted this reporter that residents of the area have been rendered homeless by the attackers.

The Benue State government, while confirming the attack, said over 20 houses were set ablaze.

The state government through the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Titus Zam, said the attack followed,”the act of lawlessness perpetrated by some restive youths in Gwer-West Local Government Area of Benue State.”

Zam said the action of the youths led to the unfortunate death of an officer of the Nigerian Army, who was on official assignment in the area.

Similarly, the Benue Proactive Initiative, a civil society group has condemned in strong terms what it tagged as the barbaric, wicked and malicious killing of a personnel of the Nigerian Arny in Naka, which led to reprisals by the army.
