Benue LG polls: Owukpa community rejects APC candidate, James Akola for Ogbadibo

A political group, Owukpa Democratic Movement, ODM, has strongly kicked against the emergence of James Akola as the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress in the coming LG council election in Benue State.

Akola, a former drummer for ace gospel singer, Peter Otulu was allegedly sneaked in as the party’s candidate by some political godfathers in Ogbadibo on Thursday.

Reacting to the development in a statement issued on Friday, the national president of ODM, Mike Idoko said Akola is not qualified to oversee the political affairs of Ogbadibo.

Idoko slammed the APC-led government in Benue for expunging Owukpa from the scheme of things in the state.

He said, “To start with, Akola can never be the chairman of Ogbadibo. You cannot impose a nuisance of us. Ogbadibo deserves more then him.

“The era of godfatherism is long gone and buried and it will never rear its ugly head in Ogbadibo, not with thousands of Abba Yaros.

“The APC should be ready for the greatest defeat of their life because no one will vote this Akola of a boy. Ogbadibo has grown beyond ‘boy boy’ politics.

“It is sad that the government led by Ortom does not see Owukpa as part of Benue, hence his reason not to remember us in his appointment.

“We are calling on all our sons and daughters to reject the candidature of imposed Akola.

The group also lamented the continuous marginalization of Owukpa community under the leader of Governor Samuel Ortom.

“When he awarded some road across the 23 LGAs in the state for construction, he skipped Owukpa.

“During his appointments too, he couldn’t find anyone qualified enough from Owukpa as part of his cabinet.”

“This government has never regarded us as part of Benue and it is sad. When he appointed a caretaker committees twice, he didn’t see anybody worthy from Owukpa.

“This was same Owukpa that voted overwhelmingly for the APC during the last election,” he lamented.

The group added that it would be holding an anti-APC rally round four wards in Owukpa in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, ruled on two applications filed by an Aspirant for chairmanship position in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogbadibo local government of Benue State, Hon. Iwodi Friday Adogo.

Iwodi had instituted a case against the APC, its State Chairman, Abba Yaro and the Chairman of the Screening Committee, Barr. John Ochoga, challenging his disqualification from the just concluded primaries of the party.
