The Benue Rebirth Initiative, BRI, comprising political leaders from Benue State has appealed to the Senate President, David Mark, to support the aspiration of Senator George Akume to succeed him.
In a communiqué issued at the end of their inaugural meeting at the weekend in Abuja, jointly signed by Joe Ikyaagba and Sam Ode, the group identified the key issues which have continued to drag the state backward, particularly in the national stage.
They held that an average Benue man sees his fellow brother as an enemy and appealed to all stakeholders to sheathe their sword and embrace unity of purpose.
BRI also want Mark to take a clear stance on the race to the senate presidency, saying his position was important and that his support would add value to Akume’s emergence as the next senate president.
According to the group “We enjoined our brother who have walked this road before and has built the necessary bridges to enable his fellow brother continue.
“It is imperative that at this auspicious time where his silence means so much, we expect that he takes a definite stance just as he is not known to be one who sits on the fence”.
The Benue group further expressed their desire to shelve all tribal differences and work for the success of Akume’s senate presidency bid, stressing that, “We sincerely wish to use this medium to affirm to Nigerians and the rest of Africa that the bitter tribal discord between the various ethnic components of the state has been buried through the concerted efforts of this group in honour of Akume’s detribalized and nationalistic posture.”
