Benue killings: Tiv Youth Council calls for IGP ldris’ resignation

Tiv Youth Council, TYC, has asked the Inspector General of Police, Idris K. Ibrahim, to tender his resignation letter for labeling the killings and wanton destruction of property by Fulani herdsmen in the state as a mere communal clash.

Recalled that no fewer than 50 persons have been killed in a coordinated attacks in Logo and Guma local government area of Benue State allegedly by herdsmen.

The group in a statement signed by its spokes person, Terseer Fabian, said the IG’s utterance was unfair and suspicious enough to consider his indirect involvement in sponsoring attacks on Benue people.

While calling for the replacement of the IG with competent hand, the group described his statement as a move to justify and exonerate herdsmen activities in the state.

The statement reads, “It is a duty of all to rise up to condemning any committed sin against humanity. This has become necessary for one and all to rise and speak out against the inhuman treatment and systematic organized killings in the Benue valley.

“We appalled by the fact that the discussions on this national issue of concern cannot be subjected by arguments on number of house burnt or how many lives lost.

“The maimed on our soil is too much to bare and the government must rise up to its responsibilities and stop playing Russian Roulettes with people’s lives.

“The people of Benue state are justifiably aggrieved with what is happening. That in our modern day society, we have institutions who can not deal with grievances and injustice.

“We are only worried our youths who have been very disciplined enough to hold firmly to the ecclesiastical injunction of turning the other cheek, are now being infected by the herdsmen with monsters consequences.

“We have resolved that it would be in the interest of police force and the image of the country, particularly with respect to the war against insurgency program of the present administration, for Idris to quit the exalted office to pave way for a more current and competent hand.

“It is with this stand that we have joined the voices of reason to condemn the wanton killings and also state unequivocally that the killers must be apprehended and justice must have its way for the benefit of our defenseless citizens.

“What we are seeing today is a conspiracy against my people and a continuation of a lineage of domination and suppression of the Benue people, which been mutating depending on the season and disposition. The modus operandi has been the same to subjugate the good people of Benue state and ensure that the economic, social and political lives of her people are completely wipe off.”
