Benue State Police Commissioner, Bashir Makama has assured that those behind recent Zaki Biam massacre, Fulani insurgency and related killings in parts of the state will be apprehended in one month.
He said also proactive measures were being taken to arrest militant leader, Gana.
”The team promised by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris has arrived the state.
“Shortly, we will all meet with the security adviser and after that proceed to see the Governor.
”So we are working towards achieving that purpose, I want to assure you that we will soon finish the operation.
”We are all working to ensure that peace reigns in Benue state,” he told Vanguard.
On duration of the special operation in Zaki Biam, as well as search for Gana and his gang, Makama replied: “I want to give myself four weeks and we are done with it. Just wait and see what will happen within the time frame”.
Last week, Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, stated that Fulani herdsmen did not carry out the massacre in Zaki Biam and blamed it on Gana.
Idris also announced that he had deployed police special units to arrest Gana over his connection to the attack.
He said: “No I don’t think its Fulani herdsmen. It was an activity of a criminal who is using some of his criminal gangs in the state to harass people.
“We have deployed Mobile Police Unit on 16th of this month to the area. There are allegations that Gana, one of the wanted man was responsible.
“This man has been in the police wanted list and I now decided to deploy some special unit both investigative to go after him and get him by all means.
“Like I said earlier, definitely, we are going to get that man.”
