Benue guber: Why Jime, APC can’t win case against us – PDP

The Benue State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has blasted Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Jime, the defeated gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last elections in Benue State, as well as his supporters that they were apparently drifting further away from reality into the state of delusion claiming he has a good case in court and will soon be installed governor of the state.

This was contained in a statement disclosed to DAILY POST on Monday signed by Bemgba Iortyom, the PDP Benue State Publicity Secretary.

The statement reads that: “This delusion of theirs is based on claims they are bandying that the second term mandate currently being enjoyed by Gov. Samuel Ortom of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a stolen one.

“In a goodwill message on the occasion of the Inaugural June 12 Democracy Day celebration held recently, Jime attempted to draw similarities between the recognition accorded June 12 and the Benue 2019 election assuring his supporters of victory at the tribunal.

“But the elementary fallacy starring Jime and his supporters in the face is how they could possibly hope to assume the role of the judge in a case they also are parties?

“Furthermore, even the circumstantial facts establish clearly that right from the campaigns to the elections proper Jime and APC in the state weren’t ready for a free and fair electoral contest.

“While Gov. Ortom, together with top leaders of the PDP in the persons of State Chairman, Sir John Ngbede, Senator David Mark, Senator Gabriel Torwua Suswam, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, Comrade Abba Moro, Senator Emmanuel Yisa Orker Jev and others, traversed the length and breadth of the state combing for votes right down to the grassroots, Jime and Senator George Akume and the Benue APC were content to wait for “federal might” to merely announce victory in their favour on the day of elections and install Jime as Governor.

“Inspite of massive rigging of the polls by APC in parts of the state during the elections, characterised by widespread vote buying, the people’s votes still truly counted in favour of Gov. Ortom, both at the first round of the ballot and in the supplementary polls.

“What more proof could be needed of APC’s desperation during the elections to win by crooked methods than the fact that Jime himself was caught red-handed by security agents with huge sums of freshly minted currency notes deployed for vote buying on the day of the governorship election.

“This ugly incident was widely carried in the media and the APC Guber candidate has since failed to clear himself of that heinous act after the polls to this day.

“Moreover, Jime lacks the credentials to draw any historical imperatives from the experiences of Benue people in recent times as we can clearly recall his cowardly silence all the while that Benue people have been under attacks from killer Fulani herdsmen.

“The defeated APC Guber candidate cannot be quoted anywhere as having voiced condemnation of those attacks and this the people are aware is because he is depending on the same Fulani herdsmen to make him governor of Benue State.

“The same Fulani herdsmen openly endorsed Jime and declared their support for him during the last elections and it is no coincidence that he has never condemned their wanton killings of innocent Benue farmers.

“Benue people gave their mandate to Gov. Samuel Ortom for a second term of office, and this was in defiance of the menacing stance of a “federal might”, therefore, it is clear to see that claims of a stolen mandate are merely delusory.

“However, those claims are evidently still the opium deluding APC members to still keep faith with their decaying party, and possibly yielding handsome rewards to the APC guber flagbearer in form of donations from groups and individuals.”
