Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the outgoing administration of Governor Gabriel Suswam of allegedly employing both blackmail and subterranean moves to curry favour from the incoming government.

This reaction is coming on the heels of a statement credited to the Commissioner of Information and Orientation in the state, Justin Amase, which alleged that the APC governor-elect, Dr. Samuel Ortom, was carrying on as if he was already the substantive governor of the state.

Benue Secretary of the APC, Mr. Onov Tyuulugh, in a statement issued over the weekend in Makurdi, said that they were not interested in Suswam’s so-called olive branch and overtures.

According to him, “democratic power proceeds from the mandate of the people and the Suswam’s government should stop making us feel apologetic for receiving an overwhelming mandate from the people.

“We all know that the outgoing government is only being jittery and afraid of an impending termination of its tenure but it will be foolhardy for them to take any actions that will encroach into the tenure of another government.

“They should stop frustrating the process, as democratic transition will take place, whether they co-operate or not, but they must also know that it is in their interest to cooperate with the incoming government.”

Tyuulugh further advised that as a government at its terminal point, “the PDP will certainly have issues with every action of the APC. They should however accept the fact that the people want change; have voted for change and that APC is eager to provide that change.”
