Benue: Akume under fire for threatening to remove Ortom in six months

Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, Terver Akase, has described as unfortunate, comments credited to the Senator representing Benue North West, George Akume, that he will remove Governor Ortom in six months.

Akase, who stated this today, at the Benue Peoples House, said the All Progressives Congress leader in Benue was arrogating to himself powers belonging only to God and that of the majority of Benue people who voted Governor Ortom into office.

He said the senator had attempted to remove the Governor with only eight members of the State Assembly through impeachment and failed because it was an illegality and wondered why he was still daydreaming.

“Having failed in their first attempt, they will fail again ten thousand times because Governor Ortom was popularly elected by the Benue people and only the people have the powers to remove him, not a senator,” Mr Akase stated.

He wondered why a son of Benue will conspire with enemies to destabilize the state as he is promising thunder and brimstone, saying no one can assume the position of God to control the affairs of men.

“Since he doesn’t even remember when he became Governor, because I remember when they asked him when he was governor while he was canvassing for the Senate presidency in 2007, he first said 1947 and later said 1979. He should give us his scorecard in the 12 years he has been in the National Assembly.

“If a son of Benue on a dark day in the history of Benue where 73 souls were lying in state at the IBB Square had the conscience to canvass votes for somebody, then it tells you the manner of person we are talking about here. It tells you that this man does not believe in the project called Benue.

On the allegations that Governor Ortom was insulted and called names, the CPS said if at all the senator insulted the Governor, it was unfortunate because leaders are expected to speak with decorum and diplomacy and shouldn’t insult other leaders.
