Benitez rules out Arsenal move for Benzema, sets 25-goal target for striker

Real Madrid coach, Rafael Benitez, has made it clear that his expectation was that Karim Benzema stays at the club and he is counting on his contributions.

The French striker has been seriously linked with a transfer to Arsenal and it is understood that Arsene Wenger is ready to smash the £42.5million fee he paid for Mesut Ozil two years.

Benitez insisted that Benzema was part of his plans and hinted he could bring in a back-up for him.

“Benzema is a great player and one of my ideas this year is that he will surpass 20-25 goals,” he said.

“I’ve placed a lot of trust in him and Benzema has sufficient resources to operate in all types of attack with any attacker. Ronaldo, for example, is an extraordinary top player.

“Having alternatives in any position always helps. For example, the middle of the park – you have a midfielder who is better with containment and another with passing.

“Depending on the match, you can take advantage of one or the other. In the case of the striker, the same.”
