Carlo Ancelotti’s agent, Ernesto Bronzetti, has claimed that Rafa Benitez is ‘99%’ the new coach of Real Madrid.
Ancelotti was sacked by Madrid president Florentino Perez on Monday, after the Italian failed to win a single trophy in the 2014/2015 campaign.
Benitez, who is currently the manager of Napoli and has also coached Valencia, Chelsea and Liverpool, has emerged as one of the hottest prospects to get the job. Bronzetti told RAI that he is aware that the Spaniard, who was once a youth and assistant coach at the Santiago Bernabeu, will be his client’s successor.
“Rafa Benitez is 99 percent Real Madrid coach,” he said.
He also confirmed that Ancelotti will not be returning to football anytime soon, as he needs to undergo a minor surgery on his back.
“At the moment, Ancelotti wants to take a years’ rest,” Bronzetti said. “That is his intention.”
Bronzetti also revealed that some Madrid players broke down, after the 55-year-old’s exit was made official.
“The team showed its concern on hearing the news,” he said. “And some players cried when his departure was announced.”
