Ben Murray-Bruce, Senator representing Bayelsa East has reacted to report making the rounds that the EFCC received N10million donation from Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, to organise anti-corruption marathon.
A statement emerged online on Monday by Mr Ganduje’s spokesman, Aminu Yassar, saying governor Ganduje donated the money to EFCC, ICPC and Athletic Federation of Nigeria for the anti-corruption campaign.
However, the EFCC in a swift reaction in a statement by its spokesman, Tony Orilade, denied receiving any donation from the state governor.
He said the report making the rounds on social media was a deliberate attempt to malign the efforts of the Commission in the fight against corruption.
But, reacting, Bruce described such donation by Governor Ganduje as an insult to the anti-graft agency.
He urged EFCC to either return the funds back to Ganduje or use it to hire a private prosecutor to try him.
Bruce in his Twitter page wrote: “I call on the EFCC and the ICPC to do the honorable thing and return Ganduje’s ‘donation’ to him.
“That donation is an insult. In fact, if the money is not returned to him, it should be used to hire a private prosecutor to try him.”
DAILY POST reports that Ganduje has since been the subject of several videos, which showed him receiving wads of US dollars from persons believed to be contractors.
At least six of such videos have been published since the first clip was released on October 11.
