Bello restricts journalists in Kogi from covering activities

Few days after taking over the mantle of leadership in Kogi State, Governor Yahyah Bello, Tuesday bared journalists from covering the inauguration of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Simeon Achuba.

Newsmen, mostly from the prints who were rushing from the State House of Assembly where the deputy governor was screened, were not allowed access by the heavily armed security men, who said they were acting on order from above.

Similar incident has occurred since the assumption of duty of Bello’s administration in the state, as journalists have been barred on many occasions from carrying out their legitimate duties in covering the governor’s activities.

One of the security men while exchanging arguments with journalists said “If the programme was meant for coverage, it would have been held at the Township Stadium”.

Several efforts by the Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel, Mallam Ademu Idakwo to explain to the security men fell on deaf ears.

Confirming the development, Ademu said they were told that the event was not meant for the public and that if they wanted the general public to witness it, they would have taken it to the township stadium.

“As I speak, even the Chief Press secretary to the governor has not called to apologize over the incident,” Idakwo said.
