Bello behind Kogi Assembly crisis – G15 lawmakers

Some members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, under the aegis of ‘G15 members’, say Governor Yahaya Bello is the mastermind of the crisis rocking the Assembly.

Factional Speaker of the House, Momoh Jimoh Lawal, told newsmen yesterday that he will not succumb to the Governor’s “impunity”.

G15 spokesman, Kolawole Matthew, who spoke on his behalf said: “As G15 who are opposed to the purported impeachment of Speaker- MomohJimoh Lawal by G5, what we collectively resolved to fight is the height of impunity in the process and the dangerous legacy it may bring where five members, as against the 15 members under the dictate and protection of the executive, will announce the impeachment of the Speaker.

“Where a quorum is not formed and five members will claim to have sat, where members have to subject themselves to the direct dictates and command of the executive on what to do; where signatures of 10 members of the House will be forged in broad day light in a bid to forcefully impeach the Speaker.

“Where oath of office of a Speaker will be taken in the office of the Deputy Governor; where the House will no longer serve as check on the excesses of the executive; where the House will be puppet and stooge under the armpits of the executive and where there will be executive actions without reference to guiding principles of the law.”

G15 also lambasted its rival group for ignoring the House of Representatives’ resolution on the state Assembly.”
