Following cult clashes in the Abia State University, Uturu, where two students were beheaded, the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has ordered all proprietors of commercial hostels around all the campuses to conduct a profiling exercise of all occupants in their hostels.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Godwin Adindu, the Governor asked owners of student commercial hostels to take interest in the identity, background and profile of their tenants.
Ikpeazu said hostels would no more be allowed to operate as a mere business venture available to whoever that can pay the price.
He said the measures had become necessary as a step towards combating the culture of terrorism among students.
The ABSU cult killing took place at Chidoo Hostel, four kilometres away from the university.
Investigations have also confirmed that most of the cult attacks are hatched and launched from the off-campus hostels around the universities and polytechnics.
