Former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, David Beckham, is reportedly planning a mega-money bid to bring Barcelona ace, Lionel Messi to the Major League Soccer (MLS) as part of his Inter Miami franchise.
According to Daily Mail, Beckham’s new team will make their debut in the MLS in 2020, and the former midfield maestro is understood to want to bring in one of the world’s top players as a marquee signing.
The report claimed that a host of high-profile players have been linked with the club, but the MLS executives are confident Beckham will look to price Messi away from the La Liga champions.
The report added that Beckham is hopeful that both Barca and Messi might be tempted by a mega-money bid at that stage of the forward’s career, despite the 31-year-old’s previous insistence that he wants to finish his career at the Catalan club.
Messi is contracted to the Camp Nou club until the end of the 2020-21 campaign, but will be 33 when Inter Miami come into existence.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has spent his entire career to date with Barcelona, scoring 556 goals in 642 appearances for the club.
