Bayern Munich chief executive, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has questioned the sense in Paris Saint-Germain’s world record €222m outlay on Neymar.
Rummenigge is the head of Europe’s clubs association and he says he is worried by the rate at which transfer costs are rising.
“During the Neymar transfer I asked myself the question what would be more important: Neymar or the Allianz Arena.”
The former Germany captain, who starred for Germany as they reached the 1986 World Cup final, told Sport Bild on Wednesday.
“I have to say clearly that I prefer having the Allianz Arena which is also more important. We as Bayern Munich must have a different philosophy.
“Overall the Neymar transfer could cost even more than the arena,” He added.
Bayern took a €346 million loan in 2005 to build the Allianz Arena, which they paid in 2014.
