Bayern Munich defeat Dortmund to win Champions League final thanks to Robben’s late strike

Arjen Robben scored in the 89th minute, as Bayern Munich shook off their losing streak in Champions League finals, to win the 2012/2013 competition at Wembley.

Jurgen Klopp’s men started the match brightly, pressing Bayern with plenty of energy and creating chances. However, Manuel Neuer made some outstanding saves to deny Marco Reus and Robert Lewandoski. Roman Weidenfeller also tipped Mario Mandzukic’s header over the bar.

However, there was nothing he could do to deny the Croatian striker in the 60th minute. Franck Ribery released Robben in the area and the Dutch winger squared for Mandzukic to tap into an empty net.

Dortmund were level just seven minutes later. Dante – who escaped a second booking – brought down Reus in the area and the referee pointed to the spot. Ilkay Gundogan stepped up and sent Neuer the wrong way.

With the game heading for extra time, Robben took advantage of slack defending and tapped the ball into the net, breaking not just the club’s jinx, but exorcised his personal demons.
