The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arase, on Tuesday said contrary to reports that several persons were killed during the last Saturday’s Bayelsa State election re-run, only three persons lost their lives.

Arase said this when the Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed met with the Police Management Team at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He said on assumption of duty, he pursued vigorously four major policing strategies in line with the current national security realities, which are, Rule of Law-driven policing, technology and intelligence-led policing, citizens-driven policing and police accountability.

The IGP stated that with the support of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, the police leadership has commenced projects targeted at enhancing the technical intelligence capacity of the force. This, he said was to strengthen their operational competency in the handling of highly organised crimes including terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, cybercrime and other crimes of national security concern.

Arase while urging Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, BON, to provide his office with inventory of broadcast facilities, pledged to provide adequate security to all broadcast premises and installations across the nation at no extra cost.
