Bayelsa polls: APC urges supporters to remain calm over cancelled results

The Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organization of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to its teeming supporters to remain calm and law-abiding over last Sunday cancellation of election results in Southern Ijaw LGA.

Director of Media and Publicity, Chief Nathan Egba, in a statement Monday in Yenagoa, urged the party members and supporters to remain calm, saying the governorship race is still on course.

“The Sylva/Igiri Campaign Organization wishes to reassure all our teeming supporters across the state that there is no cause to worry as the process of the governorship election is not yet completed.

“We, therefore, urge all APC members and supporters to remain calm and law abiding in this critical period,” the statement said.

Egba said the party chieftains, stakeholders and its gubernatorial candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva were working hard to resolve the issues surrounding the “so called cancellation of the Southern Ijaw LGA election results.”

He said: “We are very confident that our victory will be restored in no distant time and our candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva declared as the duly elected Governor of Bayelsa state having won the majority of votes and satisfied all requirements of the electoral law.”

The statement mainatined that whatever happened at Southern Ijaw LGA could not have been worse than what took place in Sagbama and Ekeremor, and yet those results were not cancelled.

It noted that Chief Sylva acknowledged and appreciated the doggedness, courage and personal sacrifices made by party leaders in the state, especially the Director-General of the Campaign, Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, and state party chairman, Chief Tiwei Orunimighe.

Egba, who served as a commissioner during the administration of former governor, Timipre Sylva in 2010, urged party faithfuls to remain positive and be prepared for “the best Christmas gift ever.”
