The Sylva/Igiri Campaign Organization of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify Governor Seriake Dickson from the givernorship race over an alleged breach of electoral laws.
Director of Media and Publicity, Chief Nathan Egba, said in a statement late Monday in Yenagoa that Dickson’s conduct and comments constituted a breach of laid down laws guiding the conduct of elections in Nigeria.
“We wish to condemn in very strong terms the serial breach of all known electoral laws by Governor Seriake Dickson.
“First, was his storming of the Yenagoa LGA Collation Centre on Saturday night after the election. The next day, Dickson was again at Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw LG calling for the postponement of the elections in the LGA.
“Secondly, over the past two days, Governor Dickson have on air in several radio stations in Yenagoa, inciting Bayelsans against the Federal Government and establishments,” Egba said.
The statement alleged that Governor Dickson has been on air, over the past two days, making inciting statements, and called on residents to remain calm and ignore Dickson’s statements over an election that is yet to be concluded.
Egba also noted that it was surprising when Governor Dickson claimed to be leading in six out of the seven results so far released, and yet still be complaining and calling for protests as well as civil disobedience.
According to the statement, the APC and its Governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva have noted the results released so far and are willing to accept the outcome of the vote in Southern Ijaw as long as the process is credible.
Egba accused Governor Dickson of desperation to cling to power in the face of outright rejection of his candidature by the people of Southern Ijaw which is APC’s strongest hold and coincidentally the LGA with the largest voter strength.
“The APC Campaign Organisation does not have any option at this point than to call for his outright disqualification from the Governorship race.
“This would mean that the APC candidate Chief Timipre Sylva would automatically become the Governor-Elect of Bayelsa State,” he said.
