Bayelsa Poll: Governor Dickson lobbies Sylva’s kinsmen with road contracts


Bayelsa state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson on Saturday lobbied the people of Brass Kingdom for votes ahead of the December 5 governorship election in the state with a pledge to award a road contract in the area.

Dickson, who made the promise at Twon Brass, during his community to community campaign tour ahead of the elections, said he will award the contract for the construction of the Nembe/Brass road.

DAILY POST reports that Brass Kingdom is the hometown of Chief Timipre Sylva, who is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

At a rally in the community, Governor Dickson told the people that his administration has resolve to award the multi-billion Naira Nembe/Brass road during the first quarter of 2016, if re-elected for a second term in office.

According to Dickson, the award of the contract would be an addition to the on-going Ogbia/Nembe Road project and other developmental projects sited in the area.

The Governor who was received by the Okpoama Council of Chiefs, commended the people of the area for their support and the large turnout at his campaign rallies in the area.

He also described his reception by the people as a testimony of the solidarity and support of the people of Brass local government area for the PDP administration in the state.

On the road project, Dickson said that the Nembe/Brass road would be given due attention so as to enable his administration achieve its policy of opening up the state to the Atlantic Ocean to enhance socio-economic development.

He disclosed that clearing and sand filling of the road would be done in earnest as soon as the project is awarded to a competent contractor.

Commenting on the State Maritime Academy, located in Okpoma, the Governor expressed concern that the institution had yet to function as expected due to financial constraints.

He explained that though his administration went into partnership with the Polish government over the take off of the institution, the application for the project had not been successful.

DAILY POST reports that aside Twon Brass, Governor Dickson also visited Odioma and Ewoama communities where he lauded the people for the warm reception accorded his campaign team.

He also commended the people of the communities under Brass kingdom for their sense of maturity as well as enlightenment on political issue.

While urging the Brass people to vote for the PDP, Governor Dickson stressed the need for peaceful election, stating that he has no personal problems with the candidate of the main opposition party in the State.

The Governor was accompanied on the campaign tour by his deputy, Rear Admiral John Jonah(rtd.) and Acting State chairman of the PDP, Chief Serena Dokubo-Spiff, and Senator Nimi Barigha Amange.

Others who also spoke at various communities rallies during the tour, include King Amalate Turner and Mr. Andy Obed, who is the chairman of Brass local government council.
