Bayelsa: PDP youths decry renew wave of political kidnapping

The PDP Youth Vanguard, an arm of the Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, has raised alarm over the renewed wave of political kidnappings in the state.

The group, in a statement Wednesday in Yenagoa, called on security agencies to redouble their efforts at combating violent crimes in the state.

The statement, which was signed by the group’s publicity secretary, Mr. James Ere, noted that violent crimes, like kidnapping were threats to the conduct of the Dec. 5 governorship elections in the state.

The youth group also alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state was behind the recent kidnapping of the Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Governor, Chief Fyneman Wilson.

Ere said that Wilson’s kidnap was politically motivated and asked the security organs to step in and arrest the perpetrators.

“The APC leadership in Bayelsa State should be held responsible. It is a party of killers and kidnappers”, he claimed.

The youth group drew the public attention to the consequences of the latest incident, warning that the state could become a theatre of war.

The statement claimed that the leaders of the opposition APC in the state were known for violence, as such should be properly monitored to avert breakdown of law and order.

“As a group, we condemn the resort to violence and sponsored kidnapping by the APC.

“Some of their so-called leaders who are parading themselves as governorship aspirants have a record of political violence,” it stated.
