A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Ben Eyororokumoh, has advised the former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva to accept
Eyororokumoh, who is the Special Adviser to Dickson on Inter-Party Relations, made this call while speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa on Tuesday.
He enjoined Sylva to learn from former President Goodluck Jonathan, who conceded defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari, after losing the presidential election in 2015.
He said Jonathan, instead of dragging the country backward through the processes of court cases, yielded to defeat for the benefit of all.
Eyororokumoh added that politics shouldn’t be seen as a game of desperation but an opportunity to serve and develop the people.
He said, “As a good politician, you should accept defeat and allow the system to flow. Politics is not a do-or-die affair. A person that loses today could be the winner tomorrow.
“We all saw how former President Goodluck Jonathan set a precedent to all politicians when he lost to President Buhari.
“He (Jonathan), immediately congratulated him rather than dragging the whole country through the process of going to tribunal, Appeal Court and then to the Supreme Court. The whole process would have cost a lot of taxpayers money that would have been spent on something else.”
He added, “The development is causing a serious distraction to the government of the day apart from the APC.
“I feel since other parties have sent a congratulatory message to the ruling party in the state and Governor Dickson, Sylva should shun grievances against Dickson and embrace him for more attraction of development from the Federal Government to the state.
“We all remember when he (Sylva) was the governor and after 10 months, the court nullified his election. I was working with him and I knew how disturbed and distracted he was, that even when he came back, it took time before he could set his feet back and develop the state for the five years he governed Bayelsa.”
