A pioneer member of the Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Perekeme Kpodo has cautioned the national leadership of the party against fielding former governor, Timipre Sylva, as flag-bearer of the party in the December 5 governorship election in the state.

Kpodo, who gave this warning yesterday while exchanging views with newsmen in Yenagoa, described Sylva as a “bad product”, stressing that the APC would lose abysmally if he becomes the party’s candidate.

His warning is coming barely a week to the September 19 APC governorship primary election in the state.

Kpodo, who was Sylva’s former security adviser, alleged that the delegates’ list for the party’s primary election had been doctored by the party chairman, Tiwei Orunimighe, to give the former governor an edge over other aspirants.

He also accused Orunimighe of compelling the delegates to vote for Sylva and not any other governorship hopeful at the primary election.

Kpodo, who is the factional chairman of the APC, said Orunimighe had been taking the delegates to the house of a party chieftain where they were allegedly asked to vote for Sylva and no other person.

He argued that the idea of arm-twisting delegates to vote for a particular aspirant has continued to affect the party’s chances of a credible primary election in the state.

According to him: “If Sylva is given the ticket of the APC, the APC will scatter and it will lose woefully. That is exactly what the opposition is praying for.

“But if we bring any other credible candidate in the APC, you will see a serious fight. It is a battle. To win an incumbent, you know what it means and not people like Sylva.”
