Bayelsa Government refuses to release body of lady killed at Dickson’s PDP rally

A family in Bayelsa has cried out over the refusal of the state government to release the body of a lady, Enenimigha Ayeibasein, who died as a result of the stampede that occurred at the rally of PDP gubernatorial candidate and incumbent governor, Seriake Dickson, on November 28, 2015.

The incident also nearly claimed the life of a pregnant woman.

DAILY POST gathered that the woman was placed on life support and was revived after hours in coma.

The brother of Enenimigha, Mr Daniel Nyamaman told DAILY POST that the remains of his sister were taken to the Federal Medical Centre mortuary last weekend by the Government House physician, one Dr.‎ Agadah.

According to him, the Bayelsa Government, through the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah and Chief of Staff, Diekivie Ikiogha, is insisting that Enenimigha would not be released until after the governorship election on Saturday December 5.

“They have refused to release her body even after identifying ourselves,” Nyamaman said.

“This is injustice. Why do we have to such through this kind of treatment at the time the whole family is mourning?

“We are crying out because we don’t want to continue to suffer in silence.

“Bayelsa government must not only release the remains of our daughter and sister, it must also take responsibility of her burial.”

When DAILY POST contacted Dr. Agadah, to explain why the remains were being withheld, his response confirmed that the state government was in custody of the body.

“I’m not the one to speak on this matter; I’m also not in a position to release any body, but I am in touch with the uncle of the lady. In fact, we spoke this afternoon,” he responded.

Dickson’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-Markson, did not pick calls as at the time of filing this report.

“Can’t talk right now, I’ll call later,” Daniel said via text.
