The Bayelsa State Government has debunked a recent report that a civil servant in the state recently committed suicide due to the delay in the payment of his salary.

It would be recalled that a section of the media recently reported that one Mr. Peter Ogiero, a civil servant in Bayelsa had committed suicide due to frustration over delayed salary.

The report had alleged that the state government was responsible for Ogiero’ death, because of its inability to pay workers, salaries on time.

But a government statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Iwiriso-Markson, described the allegation as untrue and misleading.

“The allegation is a calculated attempt by the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and its cronies to score cheap political points.

“The deceased was said to have committed suicide over an alleged unpaid salary.

“However, there is no iota of truth in the story, as Bayelsa remains committed to the welfare of its workers.

The statement claimed that it is on record that the Gov. Dickson-led administration in the state was not owing workers.

It said that Dickson had on Friday, ordered the immediate payment of September salaries to the entire workforce, despite the dwindling allocation from the federation account.

“Contrary to the reports, our findings show that, the deceased is not on the payroll of the State Government and neither did he commit suicide”.

“A family source reveals that the deceased was suffering from partial paralysis, which was responsible for his death,” the statement said.
