An interesting development has occurred in Bayelsa, two weeks to the gubernatorial election in the state.
Barely one week ago, a powerful bloc, the Bayelsa Council of Elders (BCE) gave its blessing to candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and incumbent governor, Seriake Dickson.
However, on Saturday, the same group announced its endorsement of the candidature of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one-time governor, Timipre Sylva.
The development came as a surprise to many, as the council was believed to be loyal to Dickson.
In fact, many members of the council, led by Chief Francis Doukpola, belong to the PDP.
BCE said its declaration for Sylva was because they believe in him and also want Bayelsa to feel the current change spreading through the nation.
In attendance at meeting were Doukpola (Chairman), head of Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, the Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass, His Royal Highness, King Agara Mozi, King Joshua Igbugburu, Dr. Amba Ambaowei, Chief Douglas Naingba, among others.
