Mr Henry Dickson
Bayelsa State government has accused Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) of “unreasonable delays” in the burial of the victims involved in the fire explosion at the company’s oil fields at Azuzuama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area on July 9, 2015.
Speaking in Yenogoa, the state capital on Wednesday, Commissioner for Environment, Inuro Wills, hinted that government would sanction Agip if it did not show commitment towards the interment of the victims.
He lamented Agip’s refusal to release the documents and the remains of the victims.
Wills said the Agip’s attitude was frustrating burial plans of the deceased, thereby causing those affected more pains.
It will be recalled that no fewer than 14 persons were killed in the incident.
Among the victims were two officials from the Bayelsa State Ministry of Environment and the National Oil Spills Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA).
Representatives of Agip, NOSDRA, Department of Petroleum Resources (DOR), the host community and the state Ministry of Environment were investigating the cause of a previous oil spill in the area when the explosion occurred.
