Bayelsa 2015: PDP passes resolution to replace Ward officers ahead of December 5 election

The Bayelsa State Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has passed a resolution to replace its ward executive members ahead of the Dec. 5 governorship election. Acting State Chairman of the party, Chief Serena Dokubo-Spiff made the disclosure during an enlarged meeting of the SWC on Thursday at the party secretariat in Yenagoa. He said the move became necessary in order to replace those who have defected and those that were sanctioned, ahead of the ward congresses on Thursday. Dokubo-Spiff said that the meeting was meant to direct the replacement of the affected officers and equally mandate the organisation of the ward congresses, as enshrined in the PDP constitution. He said the PDP has outlined and perfected appropriate measures to ensure smooth congresses to fulfilled all righteousness, as required by the party constitution. The acting chairman expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the December 5th gubernatorial polls. “We’ve had yet another very successful meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to comply with the demands of our party constitution. “We want to enable the working committee to deliberate and authorize the replacement of some people who have left the party at the ward level,” he said. Dokubo-Spiff said the resolution was to authorize the State Working Committee to undertake the process of conducting the ward congress primaries under the PDP constitution. He further said the process must be complied with before going forward to the electioneering process. According to him, the enlarged meeting provided opportunity for stakeholders in the party to interact and reiterate their resolve to remain united. The acting chairman also said that all PDP faithful at the ward level have been properly sensitized to participate in the ward congresses. The meeting was attended by Governor Seriake Dickson and his Deputy, retired Rear Admiral John Jonah.
