As the December 5 Governorship election in Bayelsa State draws closer, Governor Seriake Dickson has appealed to the the pan Igbo socio- cultural group, Ohaneze Ndigbo in the state to come out enmase and cast their votes for the ruling PDP.
Dickson made the appeal when a delegation from the Ohaneze Ndigbo in Bayelsa, led by its chairman, Chief Anthony Uwakwe, paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Yenagoa.
Receiving the delegation, the governor commended the Ndigbo community for being peaceful and law-abiding, noting that, they had played very significant roles in the development of commerce in the state.
He said: “I like to thank the Ndigbo community for being peaceful and law-abiding, as I have been following all your activities and as all reports have show you to be of good conduct over the years.
“Even during critical issues of national interest, where some people travel to their homes and states, you have remained here, identifying with the state, so by virtue of that you are Bayelsans.
“I enjoin you to ask your people to come out en masse with their permanent voters card and vote for the Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP in the forthcoming gubernatorial election on the 5th of December, 2015.”
Dickson said that the people of Bayelsa see the Ndigbo community in the state as Bayelsans, because they have taken the state as their home.
He assured them that his administration would sustain the existing peace and stability to ensure that they carry out their daily activities without any form of molestation.
While urging Ndigbo to live in peace and harmony, the governor assured that Bayelsa would remain home for all those who mean well for the state.
He said that his administration has worked hard to create a harmonious relationship among the various ethnic nationalities since its inception.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of an award of Good Governance and Equity to Gov. Dickson by the group, as a mark of appreciation for his achievements in his first tenure.
Earlier, the chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo in the state, Chief Anthony Uwakwe lauded Gov. Dickson for providing good governance, infrastructural development and security for their businesses to thrive.
He used the visit to solicit for the approval of the state government to enable the Igbo community use the State Sports Complex for 2015 Igbo Day Celebrations in the state.
Responding, Gov. Dickson used the occasion to grant the group’s requests for permission to use the Samson Siasia sports stadium for the 2015 Ndigbo Day celebration.
He also approved the donation of a bus to the group and the sum of N5m to support the Ohaneze Ndigbo secretariat building project as well as the appointment of an Igbo son as his aide.
