Bauchi State University student, two others die in road accident

A 200-level Public Administration student of the Bauchi State University, Gadau, Ibrahim Mohammed Karamba, has died alongside two other persons in a road accident.

The accident occurred on Tuesday few kilometers from the Yuli campus of the university located about 10 kilometers from Bauchi metropolis on Bauchi-Maiduguri highway when an 18 seater bus knocked them down while they were riding on a motorcycle.

Reports had it that, they had a head-on collision with the oncoming 18-seater bus heading to Yobe State from Abuja.

The Dean, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Dr Mahmoud Ibrahim, who visited the scene, disclosed that the accident occurred at Tirwun Kajitu village located about four kilometers from the Bauchi campus of the University.

“I was sitting in the office when some students’ leaders, a security and some other staff came and informed me that there was an accident involving our students.

“We quickly rushed to the place and evacuated them to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi where they were certified dead,” he said.

He, however, disclosed that they later discovered that, only one of the three people was their student while the other two only gave the student a ride on their motorcycle on their way to the town.

Dr. Ibrahim added that the deceased was later taken to his hometown, Misau and buried according to Islamic rites, after a funeral prayer at Misau Central Mosque.

The Dean said that a delegation from the Bauchi Campus of the University and another one from the Misau Campus led by the Dean, Faculty of Law participated in the burial rites and consoled the family of the deceased student.

Umaru Haske, an eyewitness said that the bus driver was trying to avoid another motorcyclist when he rammed into them.

He said that all the bus passengers were later evacuated and none of them was seriously injured as they only had bruises.

“Some of them were students and the vehicle was coming from Abuja heading to Yobe State. We were almost through with the evacuation when the vehicle suddenly caught fire and burnt down,” he said.

Bauchi State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Rilwanu Suleiman confirmed the accident to DAILY POST, saying that the corpses were evacuated and taken to the ATBU Teaching Hospital by their men after the accident.
