Ahead of the August 11 bye-election in Bauchi South Senatorial district, Safiya Iliyasu Mohammed, who recently lost the All Progressives Congress ticket to Yahaya Gumau, has conceded defeat.
Safiya also declared support for her opponent, Gumau ahead of the bye-election.
She made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on Friday in Bauchi.
“All the defeated senatorial aspirants have decided to declare support for Gumau for the interest of the APC, hoping that the ruling party will win the bye-election,” Safiya claimed.
Safiya called all her supporters to remain solidly behind Gumau during the bye-election to strengthen the APC and prepare it ahead of 2019 general elections.
She further cautioned her supporters to bury their political differences and embrace each other in the interest of the party.
“The ability to concede and accept defeat in politics gives victory to any contestant in the future,” she added
DAILY POST reports that Ahmed Shuaibu, one of the defeated senatorial aspirants had threatened to dump the APC, alleging irregularities and threats to delegates by government agents, therefore demanding nullification of the primary.
